Training & Dissemination

Objectives

The training work package has two roles. Firstly it is designed to facilitate uptake of the methods, tools and software we develop through training on the methodologies and operation of the associated software packages. This can be seen as external training. It will be open to all researchers from academia and industry. Secondly, it will foster knowledge transfer between the partners and enable better understanding and propagation of ideas across the consortium.

We will take a state-of-the-art, multi-tiered approach of different teaching methods and media that cover all levels of interactivity and scalability:

  • Summer schools (in the style of EMBO courses) that include lectures and practical work
  • Computational “labs” that teach workflows in a hands-on manner, as part of summer schools and as satellite events at major conferences; they will also be released online;
  • Individual in-person consulting;
  • User support through online fora and mailing lists (Bioconductor, SeqAnswers, Stackoverflow)
  • Workflow-oriented tutorials;
  • User-friendly software documentation;
  • Online distribution of these materials for self-study and re-use by trainers / teachers beyond SOUND.
